Title: Rotary engines

Client: Aeroplane Monthly

In a rotary engine the crankshaft is fixed and the cylinders spin around it. Oil is constantly flung out and this is the reason those early aviators always seem to have filthy faces. It was a challenge to show what's happening as these engines turn but luckily both the Shuttleworth Collection and the Science Museum in London had examples of engines that had been sectioned so you could see inside, a bonus in the research
