The origins of this illustration lay in a discussion over lunch between Bill Gunston, Mick Oakey and myself about why different aircraft have either 1, 2 or 3 wings. The artwork was prepared with direct reference to some of the aircraft of the Shuttleworth collection, one of the worlds premier collections of airworthy vintage aircraft and, very luckily for me, only about 20 miles from my home
